Job Seeking Tips for Recent College Graduates
Job SeekingGraduating from college can be an exciting time, full of high hopes and anticipation. Once all the celebrations subside, its time to start thinking about how you are going to find that first job that you studied so hard to earn. Read on for some great job seeking tips to help you land a wonderful new career after graduation.

Start with a professional resume.

If you’ve never written a resume before or if you have an outdated resume, now is the best time to make a plan to write a resume that will wow potential employers. Your best plan of action is to start looking for resume templates that reflect professionalism. Look for styles that will allow you to list your skills, your educational achievements and any honors or awards you earned while in school. If you have limited work experience, try to highlight your education and general work skills more.

Consider an internship or volunteering
.

When college graduates first start seeking employment, they are often faced with the “can’t get a job without experience – cant get experience without a job” scenario. One of the best ways to overcome this dilemma is to take a short term position as an intern or volunteer with a local non-profit organization in an area that interests you. This will give you work experience and you may make some good contacts for future career opportunities.

Utilize your campus job referral services.

Many college students think that after graduation they are on their own. That’s not the case. The college can still provide support with job referrals and job searching. Oftentimes, employers and staffing companies contact local colleges searching for graduates to fill rewarding entry level positions. Be sure to keep your contact information on file for when they are listing job opportunities.

Register for employment agencies.

One of the most effective ways to find a great job after graduation is by getting registered with local employment agencies. You can find them in the yellow pages. Get registered and test for them and pretty soon you will be getting calls for interviews. Oftentimes large corporations use job services to find new employees so increase your chances at getting contacted by getting signed up as an available job seeker wherever you can.

Use social networking to your advantage.

The wave of the future for job seeking is by setting up professional profiles on popular online social networking sites. You can list your resume and college education along with a few personal statements that tell potential employers more about you. Be sure to keep it professional so that you make the best first impression.
